Samsung Gear S2 Smartwatch Review: What Makes It Different?
Samsung Gear S2 comes in 3 different versions, which include the Gear S2 3G, standard Gear S2, and Gear S2 Classic. Samsung Gear S2 3G looks identical with the standard Gear S2. In terms of their hardware, all of the 3 devices are the same, except Samsung Gear S2 3G because it has a speaker and e-SIM for making calls, a twenty percent bigger battery, and GPS.
All variants of Samsung Gear S2 are round and have 2 physical buttons. The first button is for back and the other one is for the home screen or launching the app drawer. There is also a rotating bezel, which can be utilized to navigate Tizen interface. You can also swipe between menus and screens, yet the rotating bezel will give you ease when navigating.
Both the standard Samsung Gear S2 and Samsung Gear S2 Classic are made of metal, yet the regular Gear S2 has a 2-stone matte finish whereas the Gear S2 Classic is polished. These two also have Gorilla Glass 3 that covers their 1.2” AMOLED displays. But, Samsung Gear S2 Classic is made slightly different from the standard Samsung Gear S2.
The major difference is that Samsung Gear S2 Classic is lighter and thinner compared to the standard one, and has less sporty and more traditional looks. For instance, the bezel area around its display is less pronounced on Samsung Gear S2 Classic and elevated on the standard Samsung Gear S2.
Samsung Gear S2 has a rubber band, which pops off just as quickly, yet you can only fit some special watch straps to this. The lug areas are also one of the differences between Samsung Gear S2 Classic and the standard Samsung Gear S2. The lug area of Samsung Gear S2 is chunkier than the Classic version to house the strap connection mechanism.
Samsung Gear S2’s back part has a Gorilla Glass 3 panel with heart-rate sensor in the middle and there’s a stainless steel case that surrounds it. This only means that you should not worry about cracking on your watch’s back.
Both versions of Samsung Gear S2 are IP68 certified and equipped with Wi-Fi and NFC. Only 3G version of the standard Samsung Gear S2 has a speaker to receive and make calls when it isn’t tethered to a phone. Both the standard and Classic Samsung Gear S2 sync through a Bluetooth connection to your phone and even if Wi-Fi works fine on both, there is a reason to utilize this because it needs more battery power instead of Bluetooth.
